Training

Pioneer is launching a new training program in February 2012 that will help people overcome barriers related to criminal histories and chemical dependency so that they can compete in today’s job market.

Job-search readiness is a one-week component that focuses on how to look for work. It includes cognitive behavioral therapy sessions to help students learn to make better decisions.

Soft-skills and work ethic are the focus of a four-week component designed to help trainees address a lack of work experience and gain the basic skills needed to keep a job, such as dealing with authority, appropriate communication and conflict resolution.

Occupational training is a four- to six-month program designed to give trainees the skills they need to get an entry-level job in a specific industry. Training tracks include construction and maintenance, manufacturing, food service and distribution.

Apprenticeship opportunities are available in aerospace manufacturing. This program is offered in partnership with South Seattle Community College and the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Who is eligible

People in Pioneer programs, including state and federal reentry, housing and treatment services, will have first priority in applying for the new training program.

To be eligible for the training program, applicants must:

  • Be physically able to work
  • Read, write and communicate in English
  • Pass a drug test
